greyfriars rent

Rent and Service Charge

The rent charged has been set by the Association.  It includes an amount for services which is your contribution to the upkeep and running of the estate, eg estate lighting and garden maintenance.

Currently, all our properties are rented.  The rents charged are either an Affordable rent which is no more than 80 per cent of the local market rent (including service charges) or Social rent which is lower than the affordable rent and significantly lower than market rents. It is increased annually, usually at a rate close to inflation.  Tenants are given at least one month’s notice of any increase.

Paying your rent

Rent is monthly and is due one month in advance. The following methods of paying your rent are available:

Standing Order

If you have a bank or building society account you can arrange to have it paid regularly direct to the Association’s bank account.  The Association will provide forms for you to complete as a instruction to your bank.

Housing Benefit

Depending on your personal circumstances, level of income, savings and amount of rent payable, you may be eligible for help in paying your rent. You must make your application to Chichester District Council.

Universal Credit

Universal Credit is a payment to help with your living costs. It is paid monthly.

You may be able to get it if you’re on a low income, out of work or you cannot work. If you’re eligible for Universal Credit, you can get an extra amount of money to pay towards your housing costs, depending on your circumstances.  More information is available on the GOV.UK website.
